AppCamp has been incredible thus far, it's very laid back yet at the same time quite intense - I have already learnt so much. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of AppCamp, I've met so many great people from universities all around the country and been mentored by possibly two of the best in Adam and Stephen; they both know so much and can solve problems within my code so much faster than I can. It's their experiences and knowledge of IOS that I have fed off the most, to have learnt so much about IOS and to create an app to release to market in 6 weeks is something I could only have dreamed of when I started university a year ago. We all feel comfortable around each other and can have some great laughs as a Belfast team, and I know they will remain friends for a long time to come. It's been a privilege to be an AppCamp finalist in 2014.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?
In my opinion, learning becomes more interesting if it is “learning by doing” and for a person like me, who is always keen to learn something challenging and fun, AppCamp is the perfect recipe for that. We not only learn, but also get chances to use our new knowledge efficiently. If I had to mention one thing that I’m taking from AppCamp it is the ability to think outside of the box with programming.

What has been the biggest challenge of AppCamp for you so far?
There were number of different small challenges but our mentors at Kainos helped us a lot with our learning journey. We have received not only their professional advice but also moral support.

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp what would you have done with your Summer instead?
I was planning to work full time, and also do self-studying learning to develop network security tools.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?
I have gained some invaluable skills at AppCamp that will help me with my future career. Especially when applying for placement, being able to say I have built my own app and is available for download off the App Store is a tremendous achievement! I have also gained some close friends in AppCamp, we are quite the friendly group and get on really well with each other. I don’t think of AppCamp as a competition as we all help each other with programming problems.  It truly has been an amazing experience and opportunity, I still can’t believe I have been so lucky to gain a place in the final!

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp, what would you have done with your Summer instead?
If I hadn’t attended AppCamp, or CodeCamp, otherwise, my summer would have consisted of working at my part time job and saving for a holiday.

It's been such an intense experience that had taught me a lot about development and marketing and how to operate under stress. Apart from the obvious development skills, something that I will take away from AppCamp is a confidence in myself that I can create good quality ideas and products that have a place in the modern world.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?
The AppCamp completely changed my way of thinking and to approach a programming language. Developing an app from scratch is something extremely challenging. Without AppCamp I probably would never had the opportunity to learn things like time management, deadlines, team work and API integration – as well as learning from the internet – the best friend of a programmer!

What has been the biggest challenge of AppCamp for you so far?
The biggest challenge? Constant learning. When I get back to the hotel where I am staying, I am jumping back again into coding and studying.

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp, what would you have done with your Summer instead?
I was planning to study something that would have given me more possibilities to have a career in IT. AppCamp came out, and I still cannot believe that was picked as a finalist!

It really helps you grow and develop fast, every day you feel more and more confident in your work and in yourself. That’s is the main thing i would take away from this would be the effect it has had on my confidence. Before AppCamp I was completely, well, almost afraid of coding, but now I love it!! So far I have found the AppCamp experience rather challenging. It has pushed me much further in my programming abilities and at times has managed to frustrate me.

What has been the biggest challenge of AppCamp for you so far?
Other little challenges are getting up early every morning over the summer and the 58 steps up to our workspace. However, overall I’m loving the experience - it’s an absolute joy when you manage to get a piece of code working.

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp what would you have done with your Summer instead?

The AppCamp experience so far had been tough and tiring - yet loving every second. It has taught me how to manage time and more than anything, how to work more professionally. I feel fully prepared to go start creating apps on my own when I leave.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?: It has been a learning curve which I have found quite challenging and also rewarding. Personally, I did not want to wait until the start of the next academic year to learn more about programming and work towards a career. AppCamp has now provided me with the perfect opportunity to do this and have fun with my peers at the same time.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?

I’ve found it incredibly informative and enjoyable – a real insight into what it would be like to work for Kainos. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the professionalism with which Kainos have managed the project, and I feel that the entire process has been hugely beneficial to all the AppCampers. I’ve learned a lot in my short time with Kainos and I would highly recommend AppCamp to anyone considering it.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?

I have loved AppCamp! I’ve learnt so much more about IOS app development in a real working environment than I feel I could have learnt in university. It was a fantastic way to learn a new language with the support of mentors and the friends I met at AppCamp. I’m very happy to leave with a functional app that I can show to others and to have gained an insight into working for Kainos.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?
I have really enjoyed my experience in AppCamp to date. I’ve made new friends, learned a new programming language and gotten experience in a development environment I’ve never used before.

What has been the biggest challenge of AppCamp for you so far?
Trying to develop an algorithm for generating routes by distance as opposed to a destination – not an easy task!

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp what would you have done with your Summer instead?
If I hadn’t made it to the final of AppCamp I probably would have finally gotten around to starting one of the many Arduino microcontroller projects I’ve had in mind for the last year.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?

I have learnt so much more about programming and have also developed my skills in research and project management. I would highly recommend AppCamp to any first year as it’s such a great opportunity and not to be missed!

What has been the biggest challenge of AppCamp for you so far?

For me, I think the biggest challenge of AppCamp so far has been presenting my app idea to the panel as it was quite a daunting experience. However, I felt this was good preparation and practice for future presentations and interviews.

If you didn’t make it to the final of AppCamp what would you have done with your Summer instead?

If I didn’t make it into the final of AppCamp I would have continued to work at my part time job as a waitress and would have spent some time looking over C++ in preparation for next year at university. I would have also applied for Kainos CodeCamp.

I have enjoyed the AppCamp; although sometimes I found it challenging, I really like the independent learning aspect and seeing what it's like in a working environment. I will take away knowledge of a new programming language and a range of improved skills which will help me going into second year and in my career.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?

AppCamp has taught me a lot, not just about mobile application, but generally how to plan and schedule for any software development project. My time at AppCamp has been a rollercoaster of new experiences, adventure, stress and lots of learning (/googling). What I will take away from AppCamp will not only be an app on the AppStore to my name, but also a new programming language under my belt, a skill which will be valuable towards the rest of my degree and my future career.

How have you found the AppCamp experience so far and what will you take away from it?

In the first two weeks, I learned a new language Objective-C quickly.  By preparing the app proposal myself, I feel like I am closer to my career. I really enjoyed the process to challenge myself. And I am quite thankful for the help from the tutors and other AppCampers!

Now the project has started 4 days, there are plenty of tasks to be done - a real-life project is much more complex than an exercise. I can imagine how many challenges I will have to confront in the next few weeks. However, I believe all the challenges will give me a better understanding of software engineering and coding. It will definitely increase my problem solving ability and thus benefits my career and my final year project on my University course.
